OPEN: Postdoctoral Position

A post-doctoral position in protein crystallography is immediately available at Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine/Samsung Biomedical Research institute in Suwon, Korea. The lab is studying structural aspects of protein process including protein synthesis, folding and degradation. In addition, several proteins relevant to human health and disease are being studied for structure-based drug discovery. Excellent collaborative opportunities also exist within Samsung Biomedical Research institute on novel proteins. The crystallographic projects will be complemented by functional experiments using molecular biology and biochemistry, as well as alternative biophysical techniques. Hence, the applicant will be exposed to a variety of disciplines.
The unit is newly equipped with its own state of the art X-ray facility comprising a Rigaku rotating anode X-ray generator, R-Axis IV dual imaging plate detector with confocal mirror optics, and X-stream cryo-cooling system. Recent crystallographic studies in the lab also have utilized synchrotron sources in Pohang Synchrotron Light Source (Korea), USA (NSLS and ALS) and in Japan (spring-8 and Photon Factory). There are excellent facilities for molecular biology, protein overexpression, and biochemistry in the unit.
The applicant should have a PhD in crystallography, or a related research area such as chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry or molecular biology. Macromolecular crystallographers as well as other scientists who have an interest in structure biology are encouraged to apply. Interested applicants please send a CV with the names of three references to address below. E-mail inquiries about the position are welcome.

OPEN: Studentship

Structural Biology Laboratory (Prof. Kyeong Kyu Kim; kyeongkyu@skku.edu) is studying structural aspects of proteins relevant to human health and disease, which will be applied for structure-based drug discovery. Extensive collaborative relationship is established with SBRI on the study of novel proteins. Protein crystallography is the main tools for structural studies in this laboratory and it is complemented by functional studies using molecular biology, biochemistry, computation and other biophysical techniques. Hence, the applicant will be exposed to a variety of disciplines. The laboratory is newly equipped with its own X-ray facility comprising a Rigaku rotating anode X-ray generator, R-Axis IV dual imaging plate detector with confocal mirror optics, and X-stream cryo-cooling system.
Sungkyunkwan University is the one of the leading university in the world and supported from the Samsung Corporation. Medical School is located in Suwon that is the capital of the Kyonggi province and in close vicinity from Seoul. There are state-of-the-art facilities for molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry in the Department of Molecular Cell Biology, and experienced technicians assisting graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
The applicant for studentship should have a bachelor or master degree, in biomedical science or a related research area such as biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, medicine, pharmacy, crystallography or chemistry. Applicants should have a good command of Korean or English. The studentship provides financial support for tuition fees at Sungkyunkwan University and a stipend.
Interested applicants please send a CV, a self-describing letter (including research interest and future plan), any evidence of English Language Proficiency and official record or mark sheet for undergraduate courses to the address in contact information address. Personal interview will be followed for the students selected in the paper work either by e-mail or telephone. English ability might be tested for those who cannot provide the evidence of English Language Proficiency. E-mail inquiries about the position are welcome.
